Nicolas Lunven learns about the birth of his daughter mid-race
Frenchman Nicolas Lunven learnt this Saturday of the birth of Katell, his second daughter, whilst sailing offshore of the Cape Verde Islands within the context of the second (between Lisbon and Cape Town) of the eleven legs that make up the Volvo Ocean Race, the crewed round the world with stopovers.
Navigator on the boat Turn the Tide to Plastic, Lunven discovered the photo of his child on the computer at which he spends his days and nights plotting the best route for his crew. He made the most of his position to study the names of the Cape Verde Islands, since he and wife Laure had decided to make one of them their daughter’s second name. Loïck Peyron had the same idea: he’s the father of a Marie-Kerguelen because he was sailing offshore of the Kerguelens during a Vendée Globe when she was born.
